Okay, okay...

so I couldn't just go quietly into the night on this one...Yellowstone. If you don't know what's been going on, just google it.

I will share two of my favorite googlized results though, you can read them for yourself but the gist of them both are "nothing new to see here, move along, nothing happening".

One
Two

Now, does anyone HONESTLY think that any one of the quoted scientists is going to come out and say "Yellowstone is going to errupt, we are toast, stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye"? Yeah, me neither.

Actually we (geoscientists) are saying that... to each other. And I mention to folks who I believe are level headed enough to not either fly into an absolute panic or get so depressed that they forget to enjoy life while they have it.

The thing is we really don't know exactly when the thing will blow. It could be in my lifetime, it could be in that of our generation's grandchildren.

What I'm hoping is the geophysicists have enough time to figure out a way to help gradually release the pressure and maybe control the blow. It works with soda under pressure. It might work with an eruption. I don't know. I just study rocks and bones, not physics.

Otherwise we can't do much about it. We really need to enjoy life and every day we get. But that's what we should be doing anyway.

I've seen a little on it, like the fact that the ground has risen quite a bit in the caldera recently. If she blows, well then things will get real interestin' real quick. And I'll be really glad to be way down here in South Texas! We'll leave the light on for ya!

MiniKat~ Figured as much myself...I personally wouldn't be hollering it out for the world to hear anyway because the mob mentality is overly frightening. Can you just imagine the push to get out of "the zone"?

Mayberry~ maybe it will wait 'til I'm safely ensconced in the Cascades...but then the screamers would be here and I would be there.

Maybe nothing will come of it, but there is that human ego showing again in the "we're invincible" department. See, it's that whole flaw in human nature thing again to build and live in areas that are incessantly dangerous. We must have a death wish!

The only way to leave the "zone" would be to colonize the moon. The last time it blew sediment was traced to Kansas. Imagine what the crap in the sky will do to growing food. The best thing I can think of right now are lots and lots of greenhouses.
